Liposuction for Male Breast (Gynecomastia)

About the Procedure

Liposuction for Male Breast (Gynecomastia)

Procedure: 60–120 minutes • Stay: day-case or 1 night • Recovery: 1–3 weeks

What is it?

Targeted liposuction removes excess fatty tissue from the male chest to correct pseudogynecomastia. When true glandular gynecomastia exists, liposuction is combined with direct gland excision through a small periareolar incision for optimal contour.

Who is a candidate?

  • Men with enlarged breasts due to fat (pseudogynecomastia) or mixed fat and glandular tissue.
  • Stable weight, good overall health and realistic expectations; not suitable for mass-related or hormonally driven pathology without evaluation.

When to choose liposuction?

Choose liposuction when excess chest fullness is mainly fatty. If firm glandular tissue is present, combined gland excision improves results.

Pre-op tests & preparation

  • Clinical exam to differentiate fat vs gland; photos; basic blood tests and anaesthetic review.
  • Avoid blood thinners and smoking before the procedure.

How the surgery is done

Under local tumescent anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia, small incisions are made at the chest and liposuction performed. If glandular tissue is present, a small incision around the areola allows direct removal of gland and precise contouring.

Benefits

  • Improved male chest contour, minimal scarring and high patient satisfaction.
  • Quick recovery compared with larger excisional procedures.

Recovery & timeline

  • First 48–72 hours: swelling, mild pain; wear compression garment.
  • 1 week: return to light activities; stitches usually removed if present.
  • 3–6 weeks: gradual return to exercise; final contour in 3 months.

Post-op instructions

  • Wear compression vest 4–6 weeks; avoid heavy chest workouts for 4–6 weeks.
  • Report bleeding, severe pain, fever or signs of infection promptly.
